Time for a change

This has been an emotional week for Team Hoybook.  On Wednesday, I found out my position at work was being eliminated.  On Thursday, we decided to move home to Omaha.

That might seem like a pretty extreme reaction to being laid off, but in all honesty, we have been planning a move to Omaha for quite some time.  After Kate was born, B and I both developed severe cases of home-sickness and started talking about the appropriate remedy.  After some serious heart-to-heart discussions, we decided that the best choice for our little family would be a healthy dose of Nebraska.

B started to look into jobs and happened to stumble upon a posting for a photography studio manager.  He contacted them, interviewed via Skype and was soon offered a job with Tin Box Weddings. But, we had just signed a lease for another year at our place and weren't ready to move quite yet so we planned to make our trek east in October of 2013.

Things were going well--no one we told had spilled the beans yet and B was working remotely for Tin Box--until Wednesday.  I found out that REI was eliminating my position and creating a new position for the entire Portland area.  I would have the option to apply, but my job as I knew it, would be over on March 22nd.  I guess everything happens for a reason.  It gave us the kickstart we needed to leave Portland behind and start a new adventure in Omaha.

So, Team Hoybook will be heading for the Good Life on May 4th.  It is bittersweet in many ways because we are losing just as much as we are gaining.  We are looking forward to being around family and friends, but are dreading leaving our west coast family and friends. We are excited for more sunny days, but are bummed to leave behind the wilderness we love.  *sigh* Thank goodness for Facebook and airplanes.

Ready or not Nebraska, here we come.
